We believe everyday products shouldn’t cost the earth.

At Base, sustainability isn’t about being perfect. It’s about making thoughtful choices — in the ingredients we use, the way we make our products, how we package them, and what happens when they reach your home.

less packaging, less waste

One of the simplest ways to reduce waste is to use less in the first place.

Our bar products require very little packaging and can replace products commonly sold in plastic bottles. Where packaging is needed, we keep it simple and considered, avoiding unnecessary materials wherever we can.

We also offer refills for selected liquid products, allowing bottles to be used again and again.

making use of what already exists

Sometimes a great ingredient is something that would otherwise go to waste.

Where we can, we incorporate by-products and leftover ingredients from other Australian businesses into our products, giving useful materials another purpose rather than sourcing something new.

Our Cocoa Body Bar, for example, uses cocoa husks from local chocolate maker Jasper + Myrtle — a by-product of their chocolate-making process that gives the bar its natural texture.

We like finding these kinds of collaborations: small, practical ways for one business's leftovers to become another's ingredient.

Our products are made by us in Queanbeyan, NSW.

Making locally gives us greater control over how our products are produced and allows us to make in appropriate quantities. We work with Australian suppliers and ingredients wherever practical.

simple, considered ingredients

We choose ingredients for what they contribute to a product, rather than adding things simply because they are expected.

Our products are vegan and cruelty free, and our traditional soap bars are made without palm oil. Where palm-derived ingredients are used in other products, we believe in being transparent about it rather than making broader claims that don't apply across our entire range.

made to be used

We don't want beautiful products that sit on a shelf.

Base products are made for everyday life: bars that get wet, bottles that get refilled and soap that eventually disappears because you've actually used it.

Making something well, using it fully and replacing it only when you need to is a simple idea — but we think it matters.

always a work in progress

There is no perfectly sustainable product or business.

We continue to look at our ingredients, packaging, manufacturing and supply chain and ask where we can do better. Sometimes the better option is obvious. Sometimes there are compromises.

Our aim is simple: to offer simple, high-quality care products while leaving a small footprint and a positive impact.
